HIPAA FAQ's
- Are the LifeCare Plus software products HIPAA-compliant?
All elements of the Transaction Rule regarding electronic transmission of data have been integrated into our software. To address the Privacy and Security Rules, the LifeCare Plus product family offers advanced logging and security features that go above and beyond the regulations outlined by HIPAA.
User access can be restricted not just to sections of the programs but also to specific elements of information. Extensive reporting ensures that you know where and when your users have been within the system, and you can provide your residents with comprehensive PHI reports, on demand.
Of course, our software can't do it all - you, your facility staff, and perhaps even your legal counsel will need to define internal procedures, create methods of documentation, and implement day-to-day processes in order to achieve organization-wide HIPAA compliance. LifeCare Plus is only one of many tools you should employ.

- What is PHI?
PHI stands for Protected Health Information. HIPAA defines PHI as any identifying element related to a resident/patient that can serve to uniquely identify that individual. So, for example, a resident's full name could be considered PHI.
- The government says I have to keep records of PHI access for as long as six years. How does LifeCare Plus handle this requirement?
LifeCare Plus, MDS, and CarePlans all have integrated logging systems that store PHI access in their respective databases. Reports can be generated on these files at any time. The software archives these logs on a periodic basis. The archives can be moved anywhere you want - on CD, DVD, a separate network drive - and reports can be generated against those archived files in the future, if necessary.
