Deceased Residents Showing As Occupants
Problem: The Apartment Master File report shows deceased residents as occupants.
Possible Solutions: This is caused when the death is processed through Occupancy Status Changes and the resident is given a date of death, but not an "apartment-vacated" date. This will also happen when the resident's status is changed through the profile rather than through Occupancy Status Changes.
This should be corrected through Occupancy Status Changes by pulling up the appropriate apartment number, giving an action code of "B - Apartment Vacated" and referencing the inactive resident. Vacancy date is typically the date of death, but does not have to be.
A common misconception is that this Apartment Vacated date does not have to be given if the inactive resident was married and the spouse remained in the apartment. However, because the apartment vacancy date applies to the referenced resident only, it must be given each time an individual resident vacates an apartment, even if other residents continue to occupy it.
