POINT RELEASE / PATCH INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR UNIX CLIENTS

Make sure all users have exited LifeCare before installing a point release or patch.

  1. Download the file to a workstation that has access to LifeCare Plus.
  2. Right-click on the LifeCare Plus icon and left-click "Properties".
  3. Write down the path in the "Start In" field. For example: 
    P:\PVX
  4. Write down the server IP address in the "Target" field. For example: 
    192.168.1.144
  5. Look for "-DR=/u/pvx" or something similar in your "Target" field. Write down what follows "-DR=". For example: 
    /u/pvx
    This is where ProvideX is installed on the server.
  6. Double-click the installation program you downloaded to begin installing the point release / patch.
  7. Click "Next" when you have finished reading the welcome screen, or click "Cancel" to stop the installation.
  8. Check the box and click "Next" once you have finished reading the license agreement, or click "Cancel" to stop the installation.
  9. Confirm that the path in the installation folder matches the path in your "Start In" field from above. If not, change it accordingly, or click "Cancel" to stop the installation.

  10. You will receive a message warning you that the folder already exists. This is expected. Click "Yes" to proceed or "No" to cancel the procedure.
  11. Click "Next" to start copying files, or click "Cancel" to stop the installation. Do not click "Cancel" once the copy-files procedure has begun.
  12. Click "Okay" to complete the installation.
  13. At this point you will need the root password for your server - if you don't already have the root password, consult your system administrator before proceeding to the next step.
  14. Click the Windows "Start" button.
  15. Click "Run".
  16. Type "telnet <IP ADDRESS>" where <IP ADDRESS> is the server IP address you obtained above. For example: 
    telnet 192.168.1.144
  17. Login to your server as root.
  18. Change to the directory preceding where ProvideX is installed. For example, if ProvideX is installed in /u/pvx you would change to /u using the following command: 
    cd /u
  19. Execute the following command: 
    chmod -R 777 pvx
  20. Type "exit" to close your telnet session.
  21. Run LifeCare Plus from the desktop icon.
  22. If you have installed a point release, verify that the version number has updated on the main menu screen. If you have installed a patch, verify that the expected changes are present.
